概念混淆|雅思考官回忆
国内考生不会论述大部分的原因源自于概念混淆
就是其实对一个概念没搞清楚但脑袋里却脑补了一个解释,长大有批判能力之后才把概念搞清楚,但是发现其实自己认知跟真正懂的人的认知差距很远
打个比方,有一次在跟学生聊雅思口语part 3 要如何去具象化(做出有效论述),我知道要跟大家聊口语,但是我必须要先聊完写作思维部分才能进一步聊到如何跟别人沟通,雅思不论口语还是写作,沟通是最必要要学的
在上 part 3 之中,我问了问我的学生,请用一个形容词来描述妳是什么样子的人,然后再利用你做了什么事或发生了什么事去证明一下
我的学生说到:我是一个 responsible 的人
接下来就想请他证明一下他怎么 responsible
他说:“I am a monitor”
我说: “so what if you are a monitor? you can be an irresponsible monitor”
然后他说:“no no no... i can handle the problem between classmates”
我说:“你想用的词是 dispute,但是最主要的问题不在这边”
然后他说:“and i can make the whole class in order”
我说到:“ohhh... u can quiet the class down... cool... 但是请问一下大家,Dave 有证明他很 responsible 吗?”
其他人回:“没有”
我问 Dave:“你知道 being responsible 是什么吗?”
他说:“不是做班长然后管好班上秩序吗?”
我回到:“没错,但是负责到底是什么?”
另一个学生答:“负责是一个人以他的角色做该做的事”
我附和:“所以 Dave 只说出了他是一个好班长,但是没有证明他很负责,Dave 你现在知道了 being responsible 是什么,你从新证明一下”
Dave:“i was the monitor of my class... I didn’t really want to be the monitor... becuz i was too busy with my studies... but my teacher wants me to be...”
我:“so u took up the role reluctantly”
Dave: “even though I didn’t want to be one, I still spent extra time on fulfilling the role as a monitor...”
我接下来帮他进一步的具象化了:
“collecting homework from my classmates... taking attendances for my teacher... i even went as far as helping my classmates with their homework after class... just because i felt that if i did decide to take up the role.. i might as well do it right”
我:“大家现在知道了怎么证明了吧?你光说你是谁,(i am XXX),你能做什么(i can do this and do that)是没用的”
“你想证明 being responsible 这样的抽象性概念需要你说明你当时的心理状态[也就是所谓的心理具象化](I didn’t want to be XXX but am forced to)
加上 being responsible 真正的定义(fulfilling the role no matter what)呈现出心中的不愿意跟最终你的行动上的巨大反差(even went as far as helping my classmates with their homework after class)
最后,利用逻辑词像是 [if / did decide to take up/ might as well] 加上你最终想法的改变(just because i felt that if i did decide to take up the role.. i might as well do it right)”
这种正确利用逻辑词去写出心理具象化和动作具象化的能力是国内学生最缺的
主要问题在于:要不然是因为学到的英语表达不够[总是在i am XXX / I can do...]
要不然就是明明有表达方式,但是因为从小没有学这些表达方式因该在什么情况下用才贴切,反而学了一大堆没用的语法规则和中译英,以为英语其实就像是数学公式一般拼凑起来native speaker就能够读懂这样的学习方式
造成了不注重逻辑,不注重表达准不准确的问题
有一句名言想跟大家分享:
one of saddest things in life
is to know enough about a subject to thinkyou are right
but not enough about a subject to know youare wrong
目前雅思學生最大的問題是有太多訊息告訴他們怎麼做,當他們做完後發現沒用,但已經為時已晚
