分析 | 托福听力考试中一次多用的词语
很多练习托福听力的同学经常只是大量做题,而忽视词汇量的积累。于是常常发现某些句子中词汇是熟悉的,句子里却理解不通。这通常是由于一词多义造成的。
今天就要和大家分享托福听力考试中常见的一词多义。
1. in turn
大多数人理解为“反过来”。实际上可以理解为“接着会发生“
英文释义:in proper order or sequence

2. and
会误解为“并且”,实际上还可理解为“然后”,带有一定的逻辑关系在其中,而并非单纯的并列。

3. allow
往往会理解为是“允许”,其实常见的是指“使可能发生”,带有一定的因果逻辑在里面。

4. responsible
说起“负责”,其实本身就有“导致”的意思

5. account for
有“占…”与“解释”这两个意思,很多人只知道任意一个

在托福里,suggest很少表示“建议”,更多的是“表明”的含义。

“野生猎物”的意思初学者几乎全军覆没。

9. mine
“矿“的意思有三分之一的人不清楚。

10. chemical
名词表示化学物质。很多人不知道哦
英文释义:a substance obtained by or used in a chemical process 化学制品;化学品

11. tension
除了“紧张”,在涉及到理科lecture的时候tension大多表示“张力”
英文释义:[ U ] the state of being stretched tight; the extent to which sth is stretched tight 拉伸;张力;拉紧状态;绷紧程度

12. grain
grain的基础含义为谷物,但是也可以衍生出“颗粒”的意思。

16. population
population对人类来说是“人口”,对于其他物种而言是“数量”。

“观点”,不仅仅是“透视”。

更多是指“事件”,不能说成“集”。

19. readily
其实是“容易地”,并非“准备”之类的

20. edge
“优势”的说法其实不算多见,但“边缘”虽知道的人多,其实也不多见。干脆两个都记住好了。

不能望文生义为“大”,而是应理解为“在很大程度上”。

23. critical
背词汇书的人,恐怕并太清楚有“重要的”这个释义,挺常见的。
