Reading:
Listening:
1+ example
理由2+ example
Task 2. Reading Time: 50 seconds
University to Match Roommates Based on Interests
Many years of matching first-year students with dormitory roommates at random, the university will now try to assign roommates based on similar interests. Before they arrive on campus, all incoming students will fill out a questionnaire about their likes and dislikes and their habits.
By matching students with similar interests and habits, the school hopes to improve the experience of first-year students, who will now be more likely to get along well with their roommates. The plan will also reduce work for the housing office because fewer students will ask to switch rooms in the middle of the school year.
The woman expresses her opinion about the university’s plan. State her opinion and explain the reasons she gives for holding it.
开头第一话,the university will now try to assign roommates based on similar interests, 就表达出了学校计划按照大一新生的兴趣爱好来分宿舍。具体的原因在接下来的段落里,一方面the school hopes to improve the experience of first-year students, who will now be more likely to get along well with their roommates. The plan will also reduce work for the housing office because fewer students will ask to switch rooms in the middle of the school year.
Reading:
the university plans to try to assign roommates based on similar interests
Reason 1: improve the experience of first-year students
Reason 2: reduce work for the housing office
-You know, this makes so much sense, I wonder why it took them so long.
-Well, I don't think it make sense.
-Why not?
-Well, I don't think we need to have similar interests to make friends. Look at my roommate and me, we’re completely different. I mean, she’s a French major and I’m studying bio-chemistry; she’s really into sports and dive. Well, I have to say I am not very athletic.
-Yeah, but you guys are good friends.
-Exactly, that’s my point, we get along great.
-I see. But, you have to admit. There are a lot of cases where…
-Yeah, I know, cases where people decide that they have to move out, but, well, nobody moves out just because they don't have the same interests with their roommates. Maybe they have very different schedules, or…
-Or they have a chance to move to a better location.
-Yeah, anyway, my point is that there is no reason to expect the big drop, people are still gonna wanna move.
-Well, for all kinds of reasons.
态度句:-Well, I don't think it make sense.
1:I don't think we need to have similar interests to make friends.
1:Look at my roommate and me, we’re completely different. I mean, she’s a French major and I’m studying bio-chemistry; she’s really into sports and dive. Well, I have to say I am not very athletic.
2: well, nobody moves out just because they don't have the same interests with their roommates.
2: Maybe they have very different schedules, or they have a chance to move to a better location.
Listening:反对
Reason1:making friends doesn’t need similar interests.
Example 1: the student&her roommate
Reason 2: nobody moves out because of different interests.
Example 2: because of schedule or location
According to the reading passage, the university is going to assign roommates based on similar interests so as to improve the experience of first-year students and reduce work for the housing office.
However, in the listening, the woman disagrees with this plan for the following two reasons.
First of all, she thinks that students don’t need similar interests to make friends. Take her and her roommate for example. They are totally different. One is a French major, while the other is a biochemistry major. One is athletic, while the other is not at all. But they are good friends。
Secondly, students won’t move out because they have different interests from their roommates, but because they have different schedules. So, it is unrealistic to believe that it will reduce work for the housing office.
