如果一个东西上了热搜，虽然本意是因为人们search的很多，但是英语中比较地道的说法是用这个词：

trending趋势

The adjective trending is related to the verb ‘trend’ and the                        noun ‘trend’ which means ‘a sense of general direction or course’. 

形容词trending是由动词、名词trend变形而来的，后者表示大方向或路线。

‘Trend’ comes from the Proto-Germanic word ‘trandijan’ meaning ‘turn or                        revolve’. The use of the noun ‘trend’ to describe a new and popular                        fashion or cultural custom dates to the 1950s, and it wasn’t until the                        early 21st century that the word trending came to describe popular topics on the Twitter social media service.

Trend来自于原始日耳曼语单词trandijan，意思是转动或旋转。名词trend则用来描述一种新的流行时尚或文化习俗，这个用法可以追溯到20世纪50年代，直到21世纪初，trending这个词才用来描述社交媒体服务上的流行话题。

In the world                        of social media, if something trends it is the topic of many posts.

在社交媒体的世界里，如果什么东西trend，那就是说平台上有很多这个东西的帖子。

Even people who don’t use Twitter are generally familiar with the term trending, as news and entertainment outlets often mention trending Twitter topics and hashtags.

即使不使用社交平台的人也对“trending”这个词很熟悉，因为新闻和娱乐媒体也经常提到热门话题和标签。
