Some people like having a gap year before going to university, while others prefer not to have take one year off. Which one do you prefer?

I don’t think it’s a good idea for students to have a one-year vacation before entering universities, mainly because it’s too long. For most high-school graduates, a two-month summer holiday is enough for them to recover from all the previous school work and get prepared for the university. Some of them may enjoy a short trip or a long journey; others may do some volunteer work to enrich their lives. Yet none of such activities would take up a whole year. Personally speaking, I’d get bored once I’ve got so long a vacation and would probably end up goofing around every day. Besides, I’d rather enter university early, which allows me to start a career soon and earn money to better enjoy my vacations later.

One of your courses require students to finish an oral presentation as the final project, and students need to work with some partners. Do you prefer to discuss with group members online or in a face-to-face manner?（同2023.11.01）

答案示例

I prefer a face-to-face discussion since it boosts efficiency. Even through it’s for the final project, some people may still not take it seriously and can be goofing around during the discussion, such as scrolling through the smart phone or watching videos at the same time, which will affect the quality of discussion. In contrast, if we meet in person, we’d see each other, which can push the members to put their heads into the conversation. Moreover, an oral presentation needs everyone to make a contribution, for example, some will search for relevant information, some will make the speech, and others may need to show the presenter gestures or make eye contact as tips. Such practice is better made when we’d see one another.
